L’opera descrive un percorso continuo tra la semplificazione dei dati in ingresso, (ottenuta tramite medie spettrali del suono ambientale in frequenze e tempo) e la complessità, che rinasce nell’uso e nella traduzione di questi dati in ambiti diversi sia visuali che sonori.
Come materiali sonori sono stati usati diversi frammenti e versioni del poema sonoro per fonemi “Ursonate” (1922-32) di Kurt Schwitters e un banco di oscillatori intonati sulle frequenze d’ingresso.ASCII (Ascii Sound Continuum Interactive Installation)is the audio-video istallation that uses the environmental sounds in order to create a ‘waterfall’ of ASCII characters in 3rd retro-projection mapping, projected on a three-dimentional space suitably constructed.
The work describes the continuting way between the data simplification input, (obtained through average spectral of enviromental sounds in terms of frequency and time), and the complexity, that reborns in the use and the translation of such data in the diverse ambience in video and audio.
For the sound materials, we used various fragments and versions of the sound poetry for phoneme “Ursonate” (1922-32) by Kurs Schwitters and a bank of oscillators tuned on the input frequencies.

Edoardo Pedio was born in Rome. After private studies, he graduated from Conservatorio S.Cecilia in 1985 with a degree in electronic music composition under the guidance of Walter Branchi. In 2011 he obtained the Master’s degree in sound engineering from the University of Tor Vergata with the thesis on spectral synthesis. For 30 years he specializes in the technological, artistic and creative aspects of sounds.
Mario Salvucci started his journey in 1990 by studying the piano, classical guitar and experimental composition. Graduated in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence – Music Machine Learning) he received a masters degree in Sound Engineering. His experiences laid the ground work for his style built around sound design, songwriting and film scoring.
